Good Morning Traders,
As of this writing 5:30 AM EST, here’s what we see:
US Dollar – Up at 80.925, the US Dollar is up 119 ticks and is trading at 80.925.
Energies – February Oil is up at 93.80.
Financials – The March 30 year bond is down 2 ticks and trading at 128.31.
Indices – The March S&P 500 emini ES contract is up 24 ticks and trading at 1826.75.
Gold – The February gold contract is trading down at 1236.90 and is down 10 ticks from its close.
Initial Conclusion: This is not a correlated market. The dollar is up+ and oil is up+ which is not normal but the 30 year bond is trading lower. The Financials should always correlate with the US dollar such that if the dollar is lower then bonds should follow and vice-versa. The indices are higher and the US dollar is trading up which is not correlated. Gold is trading lower which is correlated with the US dollar trading up. I tend to believe that Gold has an inverse relationship with the US Dollar as when the US Dollar is down, Gold tends to rise in value and vice-versa. Think of it as a seesaw, when one is up the other should be down. I point this out to you to make you aware that when we don't have a correlated market, it means something is wrong. As traders you need to be aware of this and proceed with your eyes wide open.
Asia traded mainly lower, with the exception of the Shanghai and Hang Seng exchanges which closed higher. As of this writing all of Europe is trading higher.
Possible challenges to traders today is the following:
1. Trade Balance is out at 8:30 AM EST. This is major.
2. IBD/TIPP Economic Optimism is out at 10 AM EST. This is not major.
3. Lack of economic news.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Geoff Gannon] is trading around book value your next step is to figure out how book value is calculated.
The reason a company trading below book value is interesting has to do with accounting. In the U.S., you don mark up the book value of land and many other potentially valuable assets just because you have evidence like an appraisal, comparable sale, etc. that the market value is now higher than your original cost.
So, there will be situations where knowing how a company accounts for its assets and knowing the stock trades for less than book value can help direct you to companies selling for less than they are worth.
DreamWorks is a movie studio. So it is using a rather subjective estimate of the ultimate revenue a movie will produce. It is then amortizing the cost of the movie as revenue comes in to the company in proportion to the percentage of revenue this represents relative to expected total revenue the movie will produce.
For very old movies, it actually a little different. And for flops it different. DreamWorks can write off flops. And it can expect the ultimate revenue for a movie to be higher to the extent such revenue comes more than 10 years after the film release.
In other words, DreamWorks has to fully amortize a movie within 10 years and disregard the value an 11-year-old movie might have.
This is explained in a note to the company 10-K. It is very important for Ben Graham-type investors to read all these notes carefully but especially the notes on depreciation and amortization:
Once a film, television special/series or live performance is released, capitalized productions costs are amortized and participations and residual costs are accrued on an individual title basis in the proportion that the revenue during the period for each title (urrent Revenue bears to the estimated remaining total revenue to be recognized from all sources for each title (ltimate Revenue. We're seeing the same exact price setup in shares of mid-cap insurance broker Arthur J. Gallagher (AJG) -- just in the shorter-term. AJG has been forming an ascending triangle setup of its own since the beginning of May, hitting its head on resistance at $45.50. That's the breakout level to watch in shares this week.
Whenever you're looking at any technical price pattern, it's critical to think in terms of buyers and sellers. Ascending triangles and other price pattern names are a good quick way to explain what's going on in this stock, but they're not the reason it's tradable. Instead, it all comes down to supply and demand for shares.
That resistance line at $45.50 is a price where there's an excess of supply of shares; in other words, it's a place where sellers have been more eager to take recent gains and sell their shares than buyers have been to buy. That's what makes the move above it so significant -- a breakout indicates that buyers are finally strong enough to absorb all of the excess supply above that price level. Wait for that signal to happen before you jump into this stock.

Last Friday, small cap Farmland Partners Inc (NYSEMKT: FPI) had an IPO to join Gladstone Land Corp (NASDAQ: LAND), Alico, Inc (NASDAQ: ALCO) and Limoneira Company (NASDAQ: LMNR) as the latest option for retail investors seeking a way to invest in American farmland. After all, there is that old quote attributed to Mark Twain: "Buy land, they're not making it anymore." Moreover, February Wall Street Journal article noted that From 2009 to mid-2013, average prices for agricultural land in theUS rose by half while in Iowa, Nebraska and some other Midwest farm states, prices more than doubled. However, the same article noted that there is mounting evidence that the farmlandboom is fizzling out asfarmland prices in Iowa fell 3% over the second half of last year and those in Nebraska fell 1%. The good news though is that today's agricultural sector looks markedly different than it did during the last farmland bust back inthe early 1980s while Greyson Colvin, the managing partner at investment manager Colvin & Co. (which owns about 7,000 acres of farmland), was quoted as saying: "We think this next 12 months is going to be the best window we've had in the past five years [to invest in farmland]./p>
